The SGS 51060 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for precision drilling in composite materials and other demanding workpiece substrates. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this bit carries a bright uncoated finish and features a 118-degree faceted point angle with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. It cuts in a right-hand direction with a regular spiral flute pattern and a straight-cylindrical shank. The overall length is 1.5 inches with a flute length of 0.75 inches, making it well-suited for controlled, short-reach drilling operations where dimensional accuracy is critical.
The SGS 51060 is intended for use in precision machining environments where tight tolerances and consistent hole quality are required. It is particularly suited for drilling composite materials, including carbon fiber reinforced polymer and fiberglass laminates, where micrograin carbide outperforms standard high-speed steel tooling. This bit belongs to the SGS Series 101 line, which conforms to DIN 338 standards, and is appropriate for use in CNC drilling centers, drill presses, and hand-held precision drilling fixtures used by machinists and composite fabricators.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production drill bit for applications requiring a No. 60 wire gauge diameter (0.040 inches) jobber-length carbide drill conforming to DIN 338 specifications.
This drill bit is installed and used by machinists and precision fabricators in machine shop or production environments. Before mounting, confirm the spindle or chuck is fully powered down and the workpiece is securely fixtured. Carbide tooling is brittle - avoid side-loading, interrupted cuts without proper feed rates, or dropping the bit, as chipping or fracture can result. Follow machine manufacturer feed and speed guidelines for solid carbide tooling in the applicable workpiece material.
