The SGS 51056 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized at wire gauge 56 (0.0465 inches / 1.18 mm) with a 118-degree faceted point angle. Built from micrograin solid carbide with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit delivers precise hole geometry in demanding materials. It features a 2-flute regular spiral design with a straight-cylindrical shank and web-thinned, tapered web construction that reduces thrust and improves chip evacuation. Overall length is 1.5 inches with a 0.75-inch flute length and a maximum drilling depth of 0.6093 inches. Diameter tolerance is held to -0.0005 to 0.0000 inches. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and composite fabricators rely on this bit for close-tolerance small-diameter work.
The SGS 51056 is designed primarily for drilling composite materials, making it well-suited for aerospace panels, circuit board substrates, fiberglass laminates, and similar difficult-to-machine workpieces where edge quality and hole accuracy are critical. Its Series 101 designation places it within SGS's standard jobber drill line, and its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports drilling depths appropriate for through-holes in thin and medium-thickness stock. The right-hand cutting direction and straight-cylindrical shank allow direct chuck mounting in standard collet chucks, drill presses, and CNC spindles without adapters.
Designed as a DIN 338-compliant jobber drill for use in standard collet chucks, keyless chucks, and CNC tool holders accepting a 0.0465-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material designation is composite.
Install in a precision collet or keyless chuck rated for small-diameter tooling, ensuring the shank is fully seated before tightening. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent deflection at this diameter. Run at manufacturer-recommended surface footage for solid carbide in composite materials and avoid excessive feed pressure that could snap the bit. Inspect the cutting edge before each use, as micrograin carbide at this diameter is brittle and sensitive to lateral loading.
