The SGS 51046 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit sized to wire gauge number 46, with a decimal diameter of 0.0810 inches (2.06 mm). Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for precision drilling in hard or abrasive materials. The 118-degree faceted point with web thinning reduces thrust and improves centering at entry. Overall length is 1.75 inches, with a 0.875-inch flute length and a straight cylindrical shank. The bright, uncoated finish keeps the surface as-ground. This bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and production drillers working in close-tolerance applications.
The SGS 51046 is designed for drilling small-diameter, tight-tolerance holes in metals and hard materials on drill presses, CNC machining centers, and manual lathes. Its regular spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and shallow blind-hole operations. The bit does not support coolant-through delivery, making it best suited for external coolant or dry-drilling applications where the short flute length and small diameter allow adequate chip clearance.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fit for applications requiring a wire gauge number 46 drill bit per DIN 338 jobber length specifications, compatible with any standard chuck or collet accepting a 0.0810-inch straight shank.
Installation and operation of this bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel; avoid side loads, interrupted cuts, and excessive runout, which can cause chipping or breakage. Ensure the spindle and chuck are clean and concentric before seating the shank, and set spindle speed appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent deflection at entry.
