The SGS 51029 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in No. 29 wire size (0.136 inch / 3.45 mm diameter). Built from micrograin solid carbide with a bright uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree faceted point and a web-thinned, tapered web for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. Overall length is 2.5 inches with a 1.375-inch spiral flute and a straight-cylindrical shank. The right-hand spiral flute design and regular helix suit a wide range of general-purpose drilling applications. This bit is the correct choice for machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians who require carbide-grade hardness and dimensional precision in a wire-gauge drill.
The SGS 51029 is designed for drilling steel, cast iron, stainless, and other hard materials where high-speed steel tooling lacks the wear resistance needed for production-quality holes. Its 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 1.109-inch maximum drilling depth make it well suited for through-hole and blind-hole work on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools equipped for straight-shank tooling. Typical applications include precision hole drilling in fabrication shops, maintenance and repair environments, and production machining. Sold individually.
Designed as a DIN 338-compliant No. 29 wire-size jobber drill for use in any standard straight-shank drill chuck accepting a 0.136-inch shank diameter.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before operation. Solid carbide tooling is brittle relative to high-speed steel and is susceptible to chipping under lateral loading or interrupted cuts - avoid side pressure and ensure the spindle is properly aligned. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and do not run a chipped or damaged carbide bit.
