The SGS 51023 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No.23, with a decimal diameter of 0.154 inches (3.91 mm). It features a 118-degree faceted drill point and a regular spiral, two-flute design for efficient chip evacuation in a wide range of materials. The bright, uncoated finish suits applications where coating-related dimensional buildup is a concern. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a flute length of 1.375 inches, it falls within the standard jobber length envelope. This bit is used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals in both production and job-shop environments.
The SGS 51023 is suited for drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composites where solid carbide construction provides the rigidity and wear resistance that high-speed steel cannot match. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. The web-thinned, tapered web geometry reduces thrust requirements and helps maintain hole quality at the recommended feed and speed for the workpiece material. It conforms to DIN 338 standards for jobber-length drill bits, making it a direct fit in setups already specced to that standard.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use jobber drill bit conforming to DIN 338 standards; fits any standard drill chuck or collet holder accepting a 0.154-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Solid carbide drill bits require rigid setups - use in a drill press, CNC machining center, or rigid milling machine spindle; hand drilling is not recommended due to the brittleness of carbide under lateral loads. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before drilling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to maximize tool life, noting that this bit does not support through-coolant. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machinery guarding requirements when operating rotating cutting tools.
