The SGS 49391 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise material removal in CNC milling operations. It features a 0.1969-inch cutting diameter with a 0.9843-inch length of cut, making it suited for deep slot milling and extended-reach applications. The four-flute, spiral configuration runs a 30-degree helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life in abrasive materials. Micrograin carbide construction provides rigidity and resistance to deflection at this small diameter. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this tooling.
The SGS 49391 belongs to the Series 1XLM extra-long end mill family and is intended for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals across a broad range of workpiece material categories. Primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. Its extra-long length type makes it well suited for deep cavity milling, contour work, and situations where standard-length end mills cannot reach the required depth. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER and side-lock collet systems common to vertical machining centers and CNC routers.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the SGS Series 1XLM product line. Fits standard straight-cylindrical collet toolholders accepting a 0.1969-inch (5 mm) shank diameter.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Verify collet size matches the 0.1969-inch shank diameter and confirm runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow machine manufacturer torque specifications for collet nuts and observe recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
