The SGS 49164 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding metal-removal applications in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It features a 0.1772-inch mill diameter, a 0.374-inch length of cut, and a four-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle and variable index spacing. The TiCN coating provides enhanced wear resistance and thermal protection compared to uncoated carbide. Micrograin carbide construction supports rigidity and edge retention at small diameters. The stub-length profile reduces overhang and deflection, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance milling in CNC machining centers and high-speed spindles.
This end mill is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. The variable index flute spacing helps reduce harmonic chatter during cuts in difficult workpiece materials. Single-end configuration, right-hand cut, and right-hand spiral flute direction make it compatible with standard CNC machining conventions. The straight shank with a 0.1772-inch diameter fits collet toolholders sized for 4.50 mm shanks. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry, expanding its use in slot milling and pocketing operations.

Installation is performed by machining professionals setting up CNC mills or manual vertical mills. Secure the shank fully within the collet to the minimum insertion depth required by the toolholder manufacturer before torquing the collet nut. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits for small-diameter tooling, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and increases breakage risk at this diameter. Follow shop-specific feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut parameters for the workpiece material and machine spindle rating.
