The SGS 49160 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built to Series 16M specifications, it features a 0.0984-inch (2.5 mm) mill diameter with a 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration and a 30-degree helix angle. The stub-length geometry keeps the tool rigid and minimizes deflection during aggressive cuts. A TiCN coating improves surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1181 inches (3.00 mm) in diameter, and the length of cut is 0.1969 inches (5 mm). This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
The SGS 49160 is suited for milling operations on a variety of materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, high-temperature alloys, and hardened steels, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length design is particularly effective in applications requiring high rigidity, such as slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling of small features. It is appropriate for use in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual milling machines with appropriate collet or tool holder systems accepting a 3.00 mm shank.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application solid carbide square end mill for machining centers and CNC mills that accept a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the SGS Series 16M specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Verify collet size matches the 3.00 mm shank diameter and that the tool is seated to the correct gauge length before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or coating damage before use, and confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter.
