The SGS 48895 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in CNC and manual milling operations. It features a 0.3150-inch diameter cutting face, a 0.4724-inch length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle. The cutting edges are coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) to extend tool life and reduce built-up edge. Manufactured from micrograin carbide stock, the 48895 holds tight tolerances and is centercutting, allowing both plunge and peripheral cuts. This is a double-end, right-hand cut tool with a straight-cylindrical shank and stub-length profile, suited for high-accuracy work in confined setups.
The SGS 48895 is suited for milling a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, high-temp alloys, and titanium-group materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub-length geometry minimizes deflection and increases rigidity, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance finishing passes and shallow-pocket roughing on machining centers and mills. It is commonly used in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments where close dimensional control is required.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore tool holders, collet chucks, and end mill holders accepting an 0.315-inch (8 mm) shank diameter. Suitable for machining workpiece material classes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the supplier specification.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop safety procedures. Ensure the tool holder bore and shank are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating. Use a calibrated torque wrench on set-screw holders to avoid shank distortion. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping before commencing any cut.
