The SGS 48890 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in CNC machining and manual milling operations. Built to Series 14M specifications, this stub-length tool features a 0.1575-inch cutting diameter, four flutes, and a 30-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating reduces friction and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the rigidity and edge retention required for close-tolerance work. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this end mill in applications where compact reach and high dimensional accuracy are required.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant alloys, and composite materials corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub-length configuration reduces overhang and improves rigidity, making it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in tight clearance conditions. The 0.315-inch length of cut falls within the 0.3000 to 0.5000-inch LOC range for this series. Both cutting direction and flute direction are right-hand, and the tool is centercutting, supporting plunge entry.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician following the machine tool manufacturer's setup procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or tool holder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth, and verify runout before cutting. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and tool diameter before engaging the cut.
