The SGS 48811 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to Series 5M standards, this single-end tool features a 0.3543-inch mill diameter, a 0.8661-inch length of cut, and a 0.3937-inch straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute geometry pairs with a 30-degree spiral helix to promote chip evacuation and surface finish quality. An AlTiN coating adds thermal resistance and hardness, extending tool life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting conditions. Micrograin carbide substrate provides edge stability at elevated feeds and speeds. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, adding flexibility to the machining workflow.
This end mill suits a wide range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and titanium alloys, corresponding to ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is well suited for milling operations in job shop, aerospace, and general precision machining environments. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and pocketing where tight tolerances and consistent edge performance are required. The regular-length geometry fits standard CAT, BT, and HSK toolholders with a 10 mm shank bore.
The SGS 48811 Series 5M end mill is rated for ISO workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and titanium alloys. It accepts any toolholder with a 10 mm bore and standard straight-cylindrical shank retention.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Before tool changes, de-energize the spindle and confirm it has come to a full stop before handling the cutter. Seat the shank fully in the toolholder to the minimum clamping depth recommended by the holder manufacturer, and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut. Consult SGS Series 5M speeds and feeds documentation for the specific workpiece material to avoid premature edge wear or chipping.
