The SGS 48806 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in demanding machining environments. It features a 0.1772-inch (4.5 mm) cutting diameter, a 0.6299-inch (16 mm) length of cut, and a 0.2362-inch (6 mm) straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life when cutting hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The micrograin carbide substrate provides wear resistance and edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds. This tool is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The SGS 48806 Series 5M end mill is suited for milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and titanium, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration is standard for conventional CNC machining setups. Its regular-length profile and small diameter make it well suited for finishing passes, slot milling, and profile work in confined features.
Designed for use in standard CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 0.2362-inch (6 mm) straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S per SGS Series 5M classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool holding and runout tolerances. Verify spindle and collet cleanliness before seating the shank to avoid deflection and premature edge wear. Confirm cutting direction and spindle rotation match the right-hand cut designation before engaging the workpiece. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting tooling.
