The SGS 48799 is a square-end, single-end solid carbide end mill designed for high-precision milling in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide stock, this tool measures 1.00 mm (0.0394 inches) in mill diameter with a 4.00 mm (0.1575 inches) length of cut and a 3.00 mm shank diameter. The 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a clean edge profile. An AlTiN coating extends tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. Three flutes provide a balance of chip clearance and surface finish quality. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians, this end mill is suited for tight-tolerance micro-milling operations.
The SGS 48799 is designed for right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction and features centercutting capability, allowing plunge operations in addition to peripheral and slot milling. It carries a regular-length classification with a straight-cylindrical shank for straightforward collet or chuck mounting. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate compatibility with a broad range of materials including hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, steel alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. This makes the tool applicable across aerospace, mold and die, and general precision machining work.
Suited for use with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the SGS Series 5M classification, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, steel alloys, and superalloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel using appropriate collet holders or end mill chucks rated for the 3.00 mm shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and de-energized before tool changes. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting, as micro-diameter tools are sensitive to even small amounts of collet contamination or improper seating. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed parameters for this diameter class.
