The SGS 48522 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it offers superior hardness and wear resistance compared to high-speed steel tooling. The cutter measures 0.0394 inches in diameter with a 0.1181-inch straight-cylindrical shank and a 0.1575-inch length of cut. A TiCN coating improves surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The 30-degree helix angle and four-flute spiral geometry promote efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge cuts as well as peripheral milling passes.
The SGS 48522 is suited for small-diameter precision work on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Its regular-length profile fits standard tool holders accepting a 0.1181-inch shank. The workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate compatibility across hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. It is appropriate for applications requiring tight tolerances in aerospace, medical device, mold, and die work where small-diameter tooling is required.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Fits tool holders designed for a 0.1181-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SGS Series 1M end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. The tool shank must be fully seated and properly torqued in a collet or end mill holder rated for the shank diameter before operation. Confirm spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cut specification before engaging the workpiece. Inspect the cutting edge for chips or damage before each use, as micro-diameter carbide tooling is brittle and sensitive to runout.
