The SGS 48516 is a single-end square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), it delivers hardness and wear resistance suited for demanding production environments. The mill measures 14 mm in diameter with a 32 mm length of cut, a 14 mm straight shank, and an overall length of 89 mm. The 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. Variable index spacing reduces harmonic vibration during cuts. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC and manual milling setups.
This end mill is engineered for use on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and hardened materials. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. The TiN coating extends tool life in moderate-heat cutting environments. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and shoulder milling on vertical machining centers and knee mills operating at metric tool specifications. The regular-length classification suits standard reach requirements without extended-reach toolholding.
Designed as a metric-dimension replacement or new-installation end mill compatible with standard straight-shank toolholders and collet chucks sized for 14 mm shank diameters. Suitable for workpiece materials coded P, M, K, S, N, and H per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for toolholder torque and runout limits. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the tool. Verify collet or toolholder bore cleanliness to maintain the specified shank diameter tolerance. Confirm cutting parameters — speed, feed, and depth of cut — are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity before beginning a cut.
