The SGS 48511 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built to Series 1M specifications, it features a 0.315-inch (8 mm) cutting diameter, a 0.7874-inch (20 mm) length of cut, and a 4-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle. The titanium nitride (TiN) coating improves surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in demanding cuts. The micrograin carbide substrate provides rigidity and edge retention. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional milling machine setups. Installed by machinists and CNC operators in job shop and production environments.
The SGS 48511 is suited for milling operations on a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard collet chucks and end mill holders. The regular-length profile fits most vertical machining centers and manual knee mills where reach is not a limiting factor. This tool is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional side milling and slotting operations.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended insertion depth in the collet or holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces surface finish quality.
