The SGS 48504 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 0.1181 inch cutting diameter, a 0.4724 inch length of cut, and a 0.1181 inch straight cylindrical shank. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design runs at a 30-degree helix angle, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating extends tool life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the rigidity needed for consistent results in demanding materials. This tool is centercutting, making it suitable for plunge entry operations.
The SGS 48504 is suited for machining a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by the primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It fits standard milling operations in CNC machining centers and manual mills where a regular-length, small-diameter end mill is required. The 0.4724 inch length of cut falls within the 0.3000 to 0.5000 inch LOC range classification for this series. This tool is part of the SGS Series 1M lineup.
Designed for use in standard milling chucks, collet holders, and end mill adapters accepting a 3.00 mm (0.1181 inch) shank diameter. Suitable for primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. The shank should be seated fully and secured in a collet or end mill holder before operation. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for chips or wear before each use, and do not use a damaged tool. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut appropriate to the workpiece material.
