The SGS 46896 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 12 mm cutting diameter and a 2.5 mm corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge, extending tool life in difficult materials. With 4 flutes, a variable helix geometry, and a TiN coating, this end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing passes. The overall length is 83 mm with a 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank. It is a single-end, right-hand cut tool intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with compatible end mill toolholders.
This end mill is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The variable helix design reduces harmonic chatter, making it effective in both light finishing and aggressive roughing scenarios. It belongs to the SGS Z-Carb-AP series, which targets high-feed applications in difficult-to-machine alloys. The micrograin carbide substrate supports edge retention at elevated cutting temperatures common in superalloy and titanium work. It is appropriate for job shops, aerospace component machining, die and mold work, and general metalworking operations.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 12 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Secondary workpiece material classification covers hard materials.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the toolholder is clean and within tolerance before seating the shank; shank diameter tolerance is h6. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Always verify runout with an indicator after tool changes in precision or finishing applications.
