The SGS 46461 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Z-Carb-HTA ZH1MCR series platform, it features a 12 mm cutting diameter, a 1 mm corner radius, and a 26 mm length of cut. The 4-flute variable helix geometry promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts. An AlTiN (Ti-NAMITE-A) coating provides heat resistance and extended tool life in abrasive and high-temperature materials. This end mill is a single-end, centercutting tool suited for use in end mill holders on CNC machining centers operated by machinists and toolroom technicians.
The SGS 46461 is rated for primary use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium — material application codes P, M, K, and S. It also handles hard materials (code H) as a secondary application, making it a versatile choice for shops working across multiple workpiece materials. The micrograin carbide substrate and variable index flute spacing support both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool, reducing the need for separate roughing and finishing passes in production environments.
Designed for use with end mill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. No specific machine model compatibility was stated in the product data.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the end mill holder and tighten to the holder manufacturer's specified torque using calibrated tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate corner radius wear and degrade surface finish. Refer to the SGS feeds-and-speeds documentation for this series when programming cutting parameters for the target workpiece material.
