The SGS 46451 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling of steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It features a 6 mm cutting diameter, a 1 mm corner radius, and a 13 mm length of cut, with four flutes in a variable helix configuration that reduces harmonic chatter and improves surface finish across both roughing and finishing operations. The AlTiN coating, marketed under SGS proprietary designation Ti-NAMITE-A, provides excellent thermal resistance and wear life in abrasive and high-temperature cutting environments. Overall length is 57 mm with a 6 mm straight cylindrical shank. Mill diameter tolerance is -0.0304/0.0000 mm and corner radius tolerance is -0.0500 to 0.0000 mm.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers running aggressive tool paths in ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces, including hardened steels and superalloy components common in aerospace, die and mold, and precision manufacturing applications. It is part of the SGS Z-Carb-HTA series (series code ZH1M), engineered for demanding material removal where tool life and dimensional accuracy are critical. Standard end mill toolholders with a 6 mm bore accommodate this shank directly. Variable helix geometry and micrograin carbide substrate make it effective in both conventional and climb milling strategies.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 6 mm straight cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary application includes hard materials.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician using a compatible end mill toolholder torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the controller is in an e-stop or tool-change state before inserting or removing the tool. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as corner radius end mills are sensitive to runout-induced premature edge wear. Coolant through is not supported on this tool; apply flood or mist coolant externally at the cutting zone.
