Product Description

The SGS 45178 is a single-end corner radius end mill designed for precision finishing operations in demanding metalworking applications. Built from solid carbide with a TiN coating, it features a 12 mm cutting diameter, a 2.50 mm (0.0984 inches) corner radius, and six helical flutes arranged in a close-pitch, variable-index pattern. The 26 mm length of cut and 83 mm overall length make it well-suited for controlled, high-accuracy passes on ferrous and exotic alloys. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. It fits directly into standard end mill holders with a straight-cylindrical 12 mm shank.

This end mill targets finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials. Its variable index design helps reduce harmonic chatter during long finishing passes, and the close-pitch flute layout supports smooth surface finishes on tight-tolerance features. Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's runout and torque specifications for end mill holders. Ensure the holder bore and shank are clean and free of debris before seating the tool. Verify spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Because this tool is not centercut, avoid axial plunge moves - use ramping or helical interpolation for entry.
