The SGS 44517 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling operations on non-ferrous metals and similar materials. With a 0.2362-inch (6.00 mm) mill diameter and a 0.5118-inch (13.00 mm) length of cut, this tool is built for tight-tolerance work in production and job shop environments. The 2-flute configuration combined with a 45-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup and improving surface finish. The uncoated carbide substrate performs well in aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous alloys. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is suited for applications in residential and commercial machining environments where precise slot milling, profiling, and plunge operations are required on non-ferrous workpieces. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration make it compatible with standard CNC machining centers and manual mills using conventional toolholders. The Weldon flat shank provides a secure, positive-drive interface with set-screw-style toolholders, reducing tool pullout risk during aggressive cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-production solid carbide square end mill for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting 6.00 mm (0.2362-inch) shank toolholders with Weldon flat drive. Optimized for primary workpiece material code N (non-ferrous metals) per SGS Series 44 specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following standard toolroom practices. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before loading or changing tooling. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the toolholder to the appropriate clamping specification for the holder manufacturer. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
