The SGS 43490 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on the Series 33MC platform, it features a 16 mm cutting diameter, a 38 mm length of cut (1.5000 inches), and a 2.00 mm (0.0787 inch) corner radius that reduces stress concentrations and extends tool life at the cutting edge. The AlTiN coating - marketed under the Ti-NAMITE-A designation - provides heat resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting temperatures. With 3 helical flutes, a variable helix, and a variable index pitch, the tool is engineered to disrupt harmonic vibration during roughing passes. It is a single-end, right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool intended for use by machinists and tooling specialists in CNC milling operations.
The SGS 43490 is suited for roughing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, with secondary capability in hard materials. The coarse pitch and variable helix geometry make it particularly effective for aggressive stock removal where chatter control is critical. With a straight-cylindrical shank and 16 mm shank diameter, it mounts in standard end mill holders. The 92 mm overall length accommodates standard reach applications without sacrificing rigidity. This tool is not center-cutting and should not be used for direct plunge entry.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 16 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium; secondary application in hard materials. UNSPSC Code: 27112803.
Install in an end mill holder using a collet or set-screw style holder rated for the 16 mm shank diameter; verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Confirm spindle direction is right-hand before engaging the cut. This tool is not center-cutting - do not use for direct plunge milling; ramp or helical entry is required. Inspect the corner radius and flute edges for wear or chipping before each use, particularly after hard-material or high-feed passes.
