The SGS 42653 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding metal removal in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. It features a 20 mm cutting diameter, a 5 mm corner radius (0.1969 inches), and five flutes with a variable index geometry that reduces chatter and improves surface finish. The AlTiN coating, marketed under SGS's Ti-NAMITE-A designation, provides high-temperature oxidation resistance and extended tool life in dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions. With a 45-degree high helix angle and right-hand flute direction, the 42653 is built for both roughing and finishing passes. It is intended for use with standard end mill holders and is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
This end mill is designed for use in machining centers and CNC milling applications where tight tolerances and consistent edge quality are required. Its primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It also handles hard materials as a secondary application. The single-end, straight-cylindrical shank and 100 mm overall length make it compatible with a wide range of end mill holder setups. The normal pitch and helical flute geometry support chip evacuation across both slotting and peripheral milling operations.
Designed for use with end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials are steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, S). Secondary workpiece material is hard material (ISO code H). Part of the SGS Series 55C product line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician familiar with end mill holder torque procedures and runout verification. Confirm holder bore size matches the 20 mm shank diameter and that shank diameter tolerance (h6) is acceptable for the holder in use. Inspect the holder collet or set-screw interface for wear before seating the tool. Do not exceed the holder's rated axial reach or apply side loads beyond the tool's rated cutting diameter.
