The SGS 42610 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Part of the SGS Series 55M, this tool features a 0.315-inch (8 mm) mill diameter, a 0.7874-inch (20 mm) length of cut, and a 5-flute geometry with a 45-degree helix angle. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life during high-speed cutting. The variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration, improving surface finish and dimensional accuracy. This end mill is intended for use by professional machinists and tooling technicians working on CNC milling centers and manual vertical mills.
The SGS 42610 is suited for milling hardened steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys. The primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S indicate broad application compatibility across ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The straight-cylindrical shank and regular length classification make it a direct fit for standard ER collet chucks and side-lock holders commonly used in production and job-shop environments. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where tight tolerances and surface integrity are required.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering hardened steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. Fits standard straight-cylindrical collet chucks and side-lock holders accepting an 8 mm (0.315-inch) shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an energy-isolated state before changing tooling. Verify collet or chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before seating the shank, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and degrades surface finish. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut when setting up the operation.
