The SGS 40003 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling across a broad range of metalworking applications. It features a 4 mm cutting diameter, a 14 mm length of cut, and a 1 mm corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge and extends tool life. The AlTiN coating, marketed under SGS's Ti-NAMITE-A designation, provides high-temperature oxidation resistance and is well suited to dry or semi-dry cutting in ferrous and high-hardness materials. With four flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration, this tool balances material removal rate with surface finish quality. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is built for roughing and finishing operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials. The long-length configuration and 50 mm overall length allow reach into deeper pockets and slots where standard-length tools cannot access. The straight-cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance mounts directly in standard end mill toolholders and collet chucks. The normal pitch and medium helix design make it suitable for both conventional and climb milling strategies on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 4 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS Series 01C application guidelines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the shank to the full recommended gauge length in the toolholder before tightening to prevent pullout under load. Verify spindle runout at the tool tip before cutting, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter carbide tools. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended depth-of-cut or feed-per-tooth parameters for the workpiece material being machined.
