The SGS 39617 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with TiCN, it delivers hardness and wear resistance across demanding cutting conditions. The tool measures 5/32 inch (0.1563 inch) in mill diameter with a 5/16 inch length of cut, a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank, and a 2 inch overall length. The 30-degree right-hand helix promotes efficient chip evacuation during spiral flute cutting. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this type of cutting tool.
This stub-length end mill is suited for milling operations on a broad spectrum of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, steel, and titanium-group materials, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its compact stub geometry makes it well-suited for setups where rigidity and minimal tool overhang are priorities, such as shallow-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling on vertical or horizontal machining centers. The double-end configuration allows both cutting ends to be used before retirement, extending overall tool life.
Designed for use in standard machining centers and CNC mills accepting a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by SGS Series 14 tooling classification.
Installation and use of end mills should be performed by qualified machinists following established shop safety procedures. Before mounting, power down and lock out the spindle per applicable machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Inspect the collet or tool holder for wear and confirm shank diameter compatibility before securing the tool. Never exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and tool diameter being used.
