The SGS 39547 is a 2-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding shop environments. It carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) finish that improves surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated tooling. The 3/8 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1 inch length of cut and a 2-1/2 inch overall length, making it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where rigidity and tool life matter. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher cutting speeds and finer edge retention than standard carbide grades. Installation and operation are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop settings.
This end mill fits standard 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank tool holders and collets. It is rated for milling a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys, corresponding to material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S. The regular-length geometry and 30-degree right-hand spiral flute make it a practical general-purpose tool for vertical and horizontal milling centers as well as manual knee mills.
Designed for use in 3/8 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by SGS Series 3 tooling standards.
A licensed machinist or CNC operator should verify tool holder runout and collet condition before installing any solid carbide end mill, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to lateral shock loads. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Tighten the collet or set screw to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque range using calibrated tooling. Confirm correct cutting direction and spindle RPM against the material-specific feed and speed recommendations for carbide TiCN-coated tooling before starting a cut.
