The SGS 39031 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 0.25-inch diameter and 0.75-inch length of cut make it well suited for profiling, slotting, and finishing passes where accuracy and edge retention are critical. A TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life compared to uncoated carbide. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry, combined with a 30-degree helix angle and variable index design, promote smooth chip evacuation and reduce chatter during the cut.
This end mill is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills across residential shop, job shop, and production environments. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, steel, and high-temperature alloys. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER and set-screw style collet chucks sized for 0.25-inch tooling. This is a regular-length, single-end tool intended for general-purpose milling tasks where tight dimensional tolerances are required.
Suitable for machining workpiece materials corresponding to codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, which include hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. Fits 0.25-inch collet chucks and tool holders with a straight cylindrical bore.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or tool holder to the recommended gauge line depth before torquing the retention nut. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and reduces dimensional accuracy.
