The SGS 38583 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding material applications. With a 0.5-inch mill diameter, a 0.625-inch length of cut, and a 0.015-inch corner radius, this tool balances edge strength with precision profile work. The 5-flute, right-hand helical geometry supports both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool. An AlTiN coating — branded as Ti-NAMITE-A — provides high-temperature hardness retention and oxidation resistance, making it well suited for aggressive cuts at elevated spindle speeds. The Weldon flat shank ensures positive retention in standard end mill holders. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance environments rely on this series for consistent material removal rates and repeatable surface finish.
This end mill is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium as primary workpiece materials, with secondary capability in hard materials. The Z5C series short-length geometry reduces deflection and improves rigidity in tight-tolerance applications. The variable index flute spacing helps break up harmonics and reduces chatter during extended cuts. It is a single-end, non-centercutting tool intended for peripheral and slotting passes where corner radius profile accuracy is required.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium (material codes P, M, K, S). Secondary workpiece material is hard material (code H). Part of the SGS Z5C series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the spindle fully powered down and locked before tool change. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully in the holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Do not use this tool for plunge cutting, as it is non-centercutting.
