The SGS 38504 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.3125-inch cutting diameter with a 0.625-inch length of cut, a 0.3125-inch straight cylindrical shank, and a 2.5-inch overall length. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. A 37-degree spiral flute geometry combined with a variable index design reduces chatter and promotes smooth chip evacuation. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals operating CNC mills and manual milling equipment.
The SGS 38504 belongs to the Series Z5S line and is designed for regular-length, center-cutting applications across a wide range of workpiece materials. Material compatibility codes H, K, M, P, and S cover hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys and titanium alloys. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute orientation suit standard spindle setups. The centercutting configuration allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, supporting ramping, slotting, and side-milling operations in production and job shop environments.
Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by SGS, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys including titanium. Part of the SGS Series Z5S end mill family.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with CNC or manual milling equipment. Secure the shank fully in a collet or end mill holder rated for the 0.3125-inch shank diameter, and verify runout before production cutting. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer and tooling manufacturer guidelines for feeds, speeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material.
