The SGS 38502 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding material removal in a wide range of workpiece materials. It carries an AlTiN coating and features a 37-degree helix angle with a variable index design that reduces harmonic vibration and improves surface finish. The 0.25-inch diameter pairs with a 0.375-inch length of cut and a 2.5-inch overall length, making it well-suited for slotting, profiling, and finishing passes in tight-tolerance applications. Built from micrograin carbide, this tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop and production environments.
The 38502 is designed for use across a broad spectrum of workpiece materials, including high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, cast irons, carbon and alloy steels, and titanium alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. Its right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry is standard for conventional CNC machining centers and manual mills. The straight cylindrical shank with an h6 tolerance provides a secure, concentric fit in standard collet or end mill holders. This is a regular-length tool appropriate for general-purpose milling operations where extended reach is not required.
Rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S, covering high-temperature alloys, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and titanium alloys. Part of the SGS Series Z5S end mill family.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut to confirm concentricity within acceptable limits.
