Product Description

The SGS 38245 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding trade and industrial machining environments. It features a 3/8-inch diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 0.015-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and extends tool life in interrupted or continuous cuts. With 2 right-hand helical flutes and a medium helix angle of 30 degrees, it is optimized for roughing operations. The bright, uncoated micrograin carbide construction suits a wide range of workpiece materials. End mill holders accept the 3/8-inch Weldon flat shank.

This end mill is suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is a single-end, centercutting tool configured for right-hand cutting direction and is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where a standard-length roughing tool with a corner radius profile is required. The coarse pitch and helical flute geometry support chip evacuation in both ferrous and non-ferrous applications.

Key Features

  • 0.015-inch corner radius reduces edge chipping and stress on workpiece corners
  • Micrograin solid carbide construction provides rigidity and wear resistance
  • 30-degree medium helix with coarse pitch supports efficient chip evacuation during roughing
  • Weldon flat shank provides positive drive retention in end mill holders
  • Right-hand flute direction and cutting direction for standard CNC and manual mill setups
  • Uncoated bright finish compatible with a broad range of workpiece materials including superalloys and titanium

Compatibility

Designed for use with standard end mill holders accepting a 3/8-inch Weldon flat shank. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS Series 3CR application guidelines.

Installation Notes

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling change procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the Weldon flat shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the set screw to the holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning the cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
