The SGS 38185 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/2 inch length of cut, and a 0.015 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the tool tip and extends workpiece surface quality. The AlTiN coating, designated Ti-NAMITE-A by SGS, delivers elevated heat resistance and wear performance in dry or semi-dry cutting conditions. With 4 right-hand helical flutes and a variable index design, the 38185 provides both roughing and finishing capability in a single-end, short-length configuration. Licensed machinists and CNC tool and die technicians are the primary users of this tooling.
This end mill is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials as a secondary workpiece category. The 3/4 inch Weldon flat shank seats securely in standard end mill holders and is compatible with a wide range of CNC machining centers and milling machines used in precision manufacturing. It is particularly well-suited for profiling, slotting, and contouring passes where a defined corner radius is required by the part drawing. The Series 01C designation places it within SGS's standard short-flute corner radius family.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Compatible with workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metal, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS material application codes P, M, K, N, S, and H.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. The Weldon flat shank should be seated fully in the holder bore and the set screw tightened against the flat to prevent axial pullout under load. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut. Handle solid carbide tooling carefully to avoid edge chipping from contact with hard surfaces during setup.
