The SGS 38163 is a solid carbide, single-end corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling across a wide range of metallic workpiece materials. Measuring 0.25 inches in diameter with a 0.75-inch length of cut and a 2.5-inch overall length, this tool carries a 0.02-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge and extends tool life in demanding applications. The AlTiN coating, marketed under SGS's Ti-NAMITE-A designation, provides thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures. Four helical flutes with a medium helix angle and variable index geometry support both roughing and finishing operations in a single tool.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials in secondary applications. The straight cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard end mill holders. Its centercutting-capable geometry and right-hand flute direction make it appropriate for peripheral milling, slotting, and profiling operations. The Series 01C classification places it in SGS's standard-reach, normal-pitch family of corner radius tools.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Compatible with secondary hard material applications.
Installation is performed by machinists and CNC setup technicians using end mill holders torqued per the holder manufacturer's specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Verify shank seating depth and holder runout before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the workpiece material being machined.
