The SGS 38161 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) mill diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and four helical flutes ground from micrograin carbide stock. The tool carries an AlTiN coating — sold under SGS's Ti-NAMITE-A designation — which provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. With a 5/8 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length, this is a long-series end mill suited for reaching into pockets and slots where standard-length tools fall short. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This end mill is built for both roughing and finishing passes across a broad range of workpiece materials. Rated primary materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium. It also carries a secondary hard-material rating. The single-end, right-hand cutting, right-hand flute configuration is the standard setup for CNC machining centers using end mill holders. The 30-degree medium helix promotes chip evacuation while maintaining edge stability on difficult alloys.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool-and-die technicians. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the corner radius and cutting edges for chips or coating damage before each use — a damaged edge on carbide tooling can fracture under load.
