The SGS 38079 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 5/8 inch diameter, a 0.0450 inch corner radius, and four flutes with a 30-degree medium helix angle. The short-series geometry and Weldon flat shank provide rigid toolholder engagement, making it well suited for high-feed roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. The bright, uncoated micrograin carbide construction offers sharp edge retention and consistent performance across a wide range of workpiece materials without the added cost of a coating.
This end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped with standard end mill toolholders. It is appropriate for job shops and production floors working with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials as a secondary application. The variable index spacing reduces chatter during both roughing and finishing cuts, making it a practical choice where surface finish and dimensional accuracy matter in the same operation.
Designed for use with standard end mill toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch Weldon flat shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS Series 01C application guidance.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool. Seat the Weldon flat securely against the set screw in the toolholder to the manufacturer-specified engagement depth to prevent axial pullout. Verify runout with a dial indicator before committing to a production cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and compromise corner radius integrity.
