The SGS 36701 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metal-cutting applications. It features a 3/8 inch diameter with a 7/8 inch length of cut, a 0.01 inch corner radius, and four flutes arranged in a variable helix pattern. The variable helix geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, enabling smoother surface finishes and improved material removal rates. The TX coating enhances tool life when working in abrasive materials. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 3/8 inch Weldon flat shank, it mounts securely in standard end mill holders. This tool is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals for roughing and finishing operations in a single setup.
The SGS 36701 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard secondary materials. Its centercutting geometry - noted as single-end - and right-hand flute direction make it a practical choice for slot milling, profiling, and contouring on CNC machining centers. The corner radius geometry reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge, extending tool life in interrupted cuts and high-feed passes. It is compatible with standard end mill holders as noted by the manufacturer.
Designed for use with standard end mill holders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. Compatible with hard secondary workpiece materials as classified under material code H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in an end mill holder to the appropriate clamping torque per the holder manufacturer specification before use. Confirm spindle and axis movement are fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting to ensure concentricity within acceptable limits for the intended application.
