The SGS 36590 is a single-end ball end mill engineered for high-performance finishing operations in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention required for hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon steels, and superalloys. The 0.25-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 0.75-inch length of cut and a 2.5-inch overall length, keeping deflection low in typical milling setups. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and oxidation protection at elevated cutting speeds, extending tool life in dry or near-dry cutting conditions.
This end mill is suited for finish milling of complex contoured surfaces, pockets, and profiled features on CNC machining centers. The variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic chatter, making it effective in both light and moderate material removal passes. It is sized and configured for production environments and toolrooms where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. Primary workpiece material classifications H, K, M, P, and S indicate suitability across hardened steels, cast iron, stainless, carbon steel, and superalloy workpieces.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines accepting a 0.25-inch straight shank. Suitable for finishing passes on workpiece materials classified as hardened steels (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), carbon and alloy steel (P), and superalloys (S).
Installation is performed by machinists using an appropriate collet, end mill holder, or hydraulic toolholder sized for a 0.25-inch shank diameter. Verify runout at the spindle and toolholder before cutting to protect the cutting edge. Confirm tool projection and reach requirements match the workpiece geometry before starting the program. Follow the cutting tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and machine setup.
