The SGS 36418 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with an AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) finish, this tool is suited for cutting hardened steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous materials, high-temperature alloys, and titanium. It features a 9/32 inch (0.2813 inch) cutting diameter, a 5/8 inch length of cut, and a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonics and chatter during aggressive cuts, improving surface finish and tool life in production milling applications.
This end mill fits standard CNC machining centers and manual mills accepting a 5/16 inch straight shank. With a 2-1/2 inch overall length and a regular-length classification, it is well suited for general-purpose profiling, slotting, and contouring in job shop and production environments. Primary workpiece material compatibility codes H, K, M, P, and S cover hardened materials, cast irons, stainless and alloy steels, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature superalloys. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators working in precision metalworking trades.

Install in a collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 5/16 inch shank diameter, ensuring the holder is properly torqued per machine tool manufacturer specifications. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are set for the workpiece material and coating type before engaging the cut. This tool is not center-cutting and must not be used for direct plunge entry. Always inspect the cutting edges and coating condition before use, and replace the tool if chipping or coating wear is visible.
