The SGS 36356 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a 0.4688-inch (15/32-inch) cutting diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 3-inch overall length with a 1/2-inch shank diameter. The four-flute, variable helix and variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, improving surface finish and tool life. The micrograin carbide substrate paired with an AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and hardness retention at elevated cutting temperatures. This tool is sized and configured for use by machinists and CNC operators in precision machining environments.
The SGS 36356 is suited for finishing passes in milling applications across a broad spectrum of materials, including steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, P, and S. Its regular-length profile and single-end configuration make it a practical choice for vertical and horizontal machining centers where tool rigidity and repeatability are critical. The spiral flute geometry and absence of a chipbreaker support smooth chip evacuation in finishing contexts.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines that accept a 1/2-inch straight shank end mill; rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer for Series Z1B tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines for tool holding and runout tolerance. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are clean and within specification before securing the shank. Confirm clamping force and tool projection are appropriate for the intended depth of cut and spindle speed. Consult applicable speeds-and-feeds data for AlTiN-coated carbide tooling when setting up cutting parameters.
