The SGS 36347 is a single-end ball end mill engineered for precision finishing operations in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating, this tool delivers hardness and thermal resistance needed for cutting hardened steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and cast irons. It measures 0.4375 inches in diameter with a 1 inch length of cut and a 2.75 inch overall length. The 4-flute configuration combined with a variable helix and variable index geometry reduces chatter and improves surface finish across a range of cutting conditions. Designed for right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction, it is compatible with standard R8, CAT, BT, and HSK toolholders accepting a 7/16 inch shank.
This end mill is suited for finish milling, profiling, and contouring operations in CNC machining centers working with hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), carbon and alloy steels (P), and high-temperature superalloys (S). The regular-length profile and solid carbide construction make it a practical choice for tool and die shops, aerospace component manufacturers, and precision job shops running tight tolerances. No coolant-through capability is present, so flood or mist coolant at the periphery is the standard approach.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide ball end mill replacement for CNC machining applications requiring a 7/16 inch diameter, 4-flute finishing tool in the SGS Z1B series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are fully powered down and locked before changing tooling. Confirm shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut. Refer to the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when selecting feeds, speeds, and depth of cut for the workpiece material.
