The SGS 34831 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance material removal in non-ferrous metal machining applications. It features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 1.625 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length. The three-flute configuration with a 38-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes at typical non-ferrous cutting speeds. The uncoated solid carbide construction provides rigidity and edge retention in aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials. This tool is centercutting, allowing direct plunge entry into workpieces without pre-drilling. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is suited for milling operations in non-ferrous metals including aluminum alloys and other N-group materials. The right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute geometry is compatible with standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills configured for conventional or climb milling. The regular-length body and straight cylindrical shank allow direct clamping in ER collets, end mill holders, or hydraulic chucks with a 0.5 inch bore. No extended reach is provided, keeping the tool compact for short-projection setups.

Install this end mill in a clean, properly sized collet or holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Confirm spindle rotation is set to right-hand before engaging the cut. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, as carbide tools can fracture if run with compromised geometry. Tool changes on CNC equipment should follow the machine builder lockout procedure before any manual handling of the spindle area.
