The SGS 34738 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals and similar materials. It features a 3/8-inch cutting diameter, a 1-1/2-inch length of cut, and a 3-1/2-inch overall length with a straight cylindrical 3/8-inch shank. The three-flute geometry and 38-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation and a smooth cutting action. A TiB2 (titanium diboride) finish improves surface hardness and reduces built-up edge on non-ferrous workpieces. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute tool in SGS Series 43, suited for CNC machining centers and manual mills operated by machinists and tooling professionals.
This end mill is engineered primarily for non-ferrous metal applications including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials. The regular-length profile and cylindrical shank make it a standard choice for general-purpose profiling, slotting, and contouring operations. The non-centercutting design means it is best applied to side-milling and peripheral cuts rather than direct plunge entry. It is sold as a single unit and is well-suited for production environments where consistent tool geometry and close diameter tolerances are required.
Designed for use with non-ferrous metals (material code N) in standard CNC and manual milling applications requiring a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank tool holder. Part of the SGS Series 43 end mill line.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the machine manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, particularly for close-tolerance work.
