The SGS 34712 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. Built to Series 43 specifications, it features a 0.5-inch cutting diameter, a 5/8-inch length of cut (0.625 inches), and a 38-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The three-flute geometry balances chip load capacity with flute-to-flute rigidity, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling passes. The straight cylindrical shank measures 0.5 inches in diameter with a tight tolerance of +0.00000 / -0.00043 inches for secure toolholder engagement. This is a single-end, uncoated tool with a right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute.
The SGS 34712 is intended for milling non-ferrous workpiece materials, including aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar materials designated under material code N. Its regular-length body with a 2.5-inch overall length suits standard vertical machining center setups and manual knee mills where clearance is not a constraint. The uncoated carbide substrate performs well in high-speed aluminum roughing and finishing applications where coating buildup or edge adhesion can be a concern. It is not center-cutting, so plunge entry is not recommended without a pre-drilled or pre-bored entry point.
Designed for use in non-ferrous metal milling applications (material code N) in vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills accepting a 0.5-inch straight cylindrical shank. Not recommended for ferrous materials or plunge-entry operations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a collet, end mill holder, or hydraulic chuck rated for 0.5-inch shanks, and verify runout before operation. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct plunge cuts into solid material. Always confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the workpiece.
