The SGS 34701 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers consistent cutting performance and edge retention in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. The tool features a 1/8 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and a 38-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation. With three flutes and a right-hand cutting and flute direction, it is suited for finishing and light roughing passes where surface finish and dimensional accuracy matter. Machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, toolrooms, and production environments are the primary users.
This end mill is intended for use on non-ferrous metals as its primary workpiece material, covering applications such as aluminum, brass, copper, and similar alloys. The regular-length geometry and 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders. It is a single-end tool sold individually and is well suited for small-feature work, slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling where tight tolerances are required. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for non-ferrous applications where coating adhesion is not a factor.
Designed for use with standard 1/8 inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Primary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal (material code N). No specific machine model compatibility is stated by the manufacturer.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle at a complete stop. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, torquing the retention nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as even minor runout on a 1/8 inch diameter tool significantly affects tool life and surface finish. This tool is not centercutting and should not be used for direct plunge entry.
