The SGS 34678 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling of non-ferrous metals. With a 0.25-inch cutting diameter, a 0.375-inch length of cut, and a 4-inch overall length, this tool fits standard 0.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders. It runs a 35-degree helix angle with two spiral flutes and a TiB2 (titanium diboride) coating that reduces built-up edge and extends tool life in aluminum, brass, copper, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials. Centercutting geometry allows both peripheral and plunge operations. This tool is part of SGS Series 47E and is sold individually.
This end mill is suited for CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and manual knee mills in job shop, production, and maintenance-repair environments. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional and climb milling operations on non-ferrous materials. The extended reach of 2.125 inches makes it useful in applications where additional clearance between the spindle nose and workpiece is needed, such as deep pocket milling or fixture-constrained setups.
Designed for use in 0.25-inch straight-cylindrical shank toolholders on CNC and manual milling machines. Intended for milling non-ferrous metals per SGS Series 47E specifications. No specific machine model compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a powered-down, e-stopped state and all spindle motion fully stopped. Verify toolholder runout and collet condition before seating the shank to maintain tolerance integrity given the tight shank diameter tolerance of +0.00000/-0.00035 inches. Follow your machine tool manufacturer guidelines for tool projection length and clamping torque. Ensure cutting parameters — speeds, feeds, and depth of cut — are appropriate for the specific non-ferrous material being machined.
