The SGS 32678 is a 5-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin carbide with an AlTiN finish, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in hard and abrasive materials. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 0.625-inch length of cut and a 45-degree helix angle, producing efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. The variable index geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, making it well suited for finish milling and moderate material removal. A licensed machinist or tooling technician typically selects this end mill for precision CNC and manual milling setups.
This end mill is a stub-length tool configured for right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes. It performs in a broad range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, P, and S. The straight-cylindrical shank provides secure clamping in standard collet chucks and end mill holders. It is a single-end, non-centercutting design, so plunge milling is not an indicated application.
The SGS 32678 is a Series 55 solid carbide square end mill suitable for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 0.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible workpiece material codes per the manufacturer are H, K, M, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with CNC or manual milling setup procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware to the machine or holder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, and verify that feeds and speeds are appropriate for the workpiece material and depth of cut.
