The SGS 32609 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. Measuring 0.1563 inches in diameter with a 0.01-inch corner radius, this single-end tool features 5 helical flutes with a variable index design that reduces harmonic chatter during cuts. The AlTiN coating, designated Ti-NAMITE-A by SGS, provides excellent thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures. At 2 inches overall length with a 9/16-inch length of cut, the 32609 is classified as a long-reach tool suited for milling operations requiring reach into pockets or slots. It is installed in standard end mill holders and operated by CNC machinists and manual mill operators in production and job-shop settings.
The SGS 32609 is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium, as well as hard materials. Its high-helix geometry and AlTiN coating make it well suited for finishing and roughing passes on difficult-to-machine alloys where heat generation and tool wear are primary concerns. The long flute configuration supports slotting, profiling, and contour milling. The 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into end mill holders for secure retention at higher spindle speeds typical of carbide tooling applications.
Designed for use with end mill holders. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials per SGS Series 55CR material application designations P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC operator or machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped before tool changes. Seat the 3/16-inch straight-cylindrical shank fully into the end mill holder and torque the set screw or collet per the holder manufacturer's specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before starting the cut, as excessive runout on small-diameter carbide end mills significantly increases breakage risk. Do not use this tool in a drill chuck or non-precision holder.
