The SGS 31946 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. With a 0.75-inch cutting diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 6-inch overall length, this is an extra-long tool built for reaching deep cavities and extended-reach setups where standard-length end mills fall short. The 30-degree spiral helix and 2-flute configuration promote efficient chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. A titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and wear resistance. The micrograin carbide substrate provides rigidity and edge retention during aggressive material removal.
This end mill is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals across a wide range of workpiece materials, including steels, cast irons, stainless alloys, non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant superalloys, and titanium-based materials, as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is appropriate for machining centers, CNC mills, and manual vertical mills in job shop, production, and toolroom environments. The straight cylindrical shank seats in standard collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders with a 0.75-inch bore. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers.
Part of the SGS Series 3EL extra-long square end mill line. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering steels, cast irons, stainless, non-ferrous, superalloys, and titanium alloys. Fits 0.75-inch bore collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic toolholders on standard machining centers and CNC milling machines.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and tighten to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque range. Extra-long end mills are more susceptible to deflection; minimize overhang beyond the holder nose to the extent the job allows.
